Oakridge Daytimers By Dianne Winter
There were only a few showers but they brought flowers and Daytimers to the home of Betty Prickett on April 8th. The membership is so grateful to those who volunteer the use of their home for the meetings and to the food hostesses who serve. For this meeting the refreshments were provided by Mary Jensen, Audrey King, Ruth King and Jo Ann Williams.
After the greetings were exchanged by all and the personal news and events were discussed, the president, Cecile La Bossier, opened the meeting. She introduced the visitor, Linda Hagerdon, and announced the April birthdays of Norma Blum, Kim Gingerich, Audrey King, Norene Murphy (97 yrs), June Parks, Betty Prickett and Jewel Wooldridge.
Cecile proceeded with a special thanks to the officers and committee chairmen and others who were helpful during the year. The strength and success of Daytimers has endured because so many members volunteer, therefore the duties and items that need to be completed can be distributed among them. Members volunteered for the nominating committee to choose nominees for the next year.
Most of the interest groups meetings remain the same, but the location of the Book Club meeting was changed to the home of Dianne Winter on Friday, April 18th, at 10 am. Check the calendar provided by Mary Pattie for dates and times.
The Lock Box Program provided by the City of Garland through the Fire and Police Departments was revisited in discussion that included the qualifications. The printed information and applications were made available. Mary Reed testified that her situation demonstrated the necessity and value of the program.
An update was given concerning the Vitality Grant Project. Jo Ann Williams, treasurer, announced that many have donated for the Oakridge portion of the project. To get involved or for more information visit Cecile’s home at 3218 Bending Oaks Trail on Saturday, April 19th, at 4pm. RSVP 972-896-9413. You can also retrieve more information about this project and other events on the ONA website – www.oakridgena.com
Suzanne Snow reported on the successful trip to the Eisemann Center Art Gallery to view the oil painting of Becky Parks in the juried exhibit of the Richardson Civic Art Society Annual Show. She also announced another activity that includes a trip to an East Texas Garden. Several members traveled there on a previous trip and have asked for a repeat event. Suzanne will send an announcement when the plans are finalized.
